Designed in 1980, the Bedale Jacket was born from Barbour's love of horsemanship, showcasing a short, lightweight jacket that offered versatility and functionality. Dame Margaret Barbour designed the Bedale with equestrian practicalities in mind, showcasing a shorter length, relaxed fit, rear vents, and the essential nylon inner "drip strip" that provided resistance to horses' moisture seeping into the jacket. Constructed from 6oz midweight waxed cotton and fully interfaced with thermal liners and optional zip-off hoods, the Bedale is a brilliant year-round jacket that can be worn for a multitude of different occasions. The classic elements of a Barbour jacket are all included, with a two-way brass zip with ring pull and a 'Stormfly' studded front, two large bellows pockets and two moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets, and the traditional studded corduroy collar for a concealed throat flap. Now a classic, the Bedale's practicality and simple style remain popular with all ages. The Bedale's popularity has inspired a scaled-down version for women, the Beadnell, named after a small fishing village in Northumberland.
